Navigation Rallies
Run on public roads with competitors attempting to complete a specific course defined by written route instructions, with close adherence to a speed schedule. Events range from fun to serious navigational challenges.

The requirements for a navigation rally are a road registered and warranted car, and a minimum of two people, being a driver with a current Driver’s Licence and a navigator.

Motorkhanas
Held on seal or grass, this is a timed competition in which competitors negotiate a precise course of less than 200 metres defined by cones designed to test driver skill rather than outright speed or reliability.

The minimum age to compete in a Motorkhana is 12 and the only requirement is a car to Warrant of Fitness standard.

Autocrosses
Usually held on grass and is a timed competition that will improve your car control skills while having fun. Driver skill is usually more important than horsepower. Cars run one at a time around a course usually marked out with cones. Autocrosses are held in open areas so that risks are minimised in the event of spin etc. The winner is the driver with the fastest time at the end of the competition.

Requirements for this type of event are a car that is to a Warrant of Fitness standard, a Motorsport New Zealand standard approved helmet and either a racing suit or cotton overalls closed at the cuffs and ankles. The minimum age to compete in an Autocross is 12.

Hillclimbs
A hillclimb is a speed event held on a closed road, either seal or gravel, which is predominantly uphill from start to finish. The winner is the driver with the fastest time at the end of the competition.

Requirements are a Motorsport New Zealand standard approved helmet and Fire Extinguisher, either a racing suit or cotton overalls closed at the cuffs and ankles and a Motorsport New Zealand Clubsport Competition Licence or higher. For some hillclimbs, Motorsport New Zealand rollover protection is required.
